Sun Readable Outdoor LCD TFT Solutions

Pro Display uses only the highest quality TFT screens and components to develop their range of high brightness displays, with screen sizes ranging from 32” to 46”. The range includes a number of sunlight “viewable” displays for window and outdoor applications. Displays offering both PC / video inputs with a number of special options – touch screens, single board PCs, digital media players, TV tuners and IP rated housings etc…

We use two types of screen technology to produce our sunlight viewable LCD screens – high brightness back lit panels and transflective panels. The type of panel used depends on the application and brightness level that we wish to achieve. Our high brightness back lit panels tend to be 3 – 4 times as bright as a standard LCD TFT panel – ranging from 1000 to 2000 nit depending upon panel size. This brightness level is suitable for applications in direct sunlight.

The transflective technology does not rely on using a high brightness panel; this is where transflective LCD technology can be applied to certain selected regular TFT LCD to introduce the LCD with a reflective function. With the imposed reflective function, the modified LCD can reflect the ambient light passing the LCD cell and utilize the reflected light beams as its illumination. The stronger the ambient light is, the brighter the LCD will appear. As a result, the modified LCD is viewable under lighting conditions including direct sunlight.
